Bursaries
Introduction
The ACSG makes funds available on an annual renewable basis for research/development work in the field of Assessment/Development Centres. The ACSG does this through a transparent and participative setting of criteria; the responsible distribution of information to all stakeholders, particularly students and applicants; and the efficient and effective administration of available funds.
The ACSG is perceived as proactively engaged with the vision to provide financial assistance to students/lecturers/applicants and other persons interested in doing research/development work of an Assessment/Development Centre nature. The study group is particularly keen to support students/academics from financially disadvantaged backgrounds ? individuals considered will be those who have no other means to finance their continued education.
Primary Aim
The ACSG wants to provide financial assistance to students and consultants/other persons who have the potential to succeed in doing research and or development work in the field of Assessment /Development Centres. It wishes to stimulate these parties to do research and or development so as to enhance the viability of the subject.
Who qualifies for financial assistance?
To be eligible for financial assistance, you must be:
- A citizen of South Africa
- Plan to research a relevant topic and/or develop appropriate techniques within the field of Assessment/Development Centres
- Accepted as a student who is legible to register at any South African university for a Masters or Doctorate degree in Industrial/Organisational Psychology
- Judged to have the potential to succeed
- A consultant / lecturer or any other person specialising in Assessment/ Development Centres in the work context
Size of financial assistance
- An amount of R8 000-00 is available for Masters students for dissertation/article research.
- An amount of R12 000-00 is available for Doctoral thesis research.
- A Maximum amount of R15 000-00 is available for development/research not related to obtaining an academic qualification, but with the purpose to make a contribution to the field of Assessment/Development Centres.
Bursary Conditions
- The bursary will be paid in one lump sum directly to the university at which the bursary holder is (will be) studying.
- Bursary is awarded to students embarking on his/her Doctorate/ Masters studies and applications must be supported, in writing, by at least one faculty member where the student has been reading for her/his Honours/ Masters degree.
- Each application must be accompanied by the applicant research proposal with a cover letter from his or her supervisor of the University.
- Successful candidates will be required to submit quarterly reports to the Chairperson of the ACSG on their progress.
- In case the Executive of the ACSG feels that insufficient progress has been made over an extended period, they reserve the right to withdraw the financial assistance. If no progress is evident, the candidate will need to pay back the full amount to the ACSG.
- The individual holding an ACSG bursary will be expected to present their research topic at the annual ACSG Conference.
- Attendance at the annual ACSG conference for the bursary holder(s) will be free of charge.
- Information on the study should be made available to the ACSG.
- In case of projects of a more comprehensive nature that involve development of say In-trays, agreement must be reached with the Executive on copyright and the availability of such information and tools. Each case will be dealt with in a separate manner.
